Members of the Mandarin Alumni gathered at NUSS Suntec City Guild House on 24 May 2008 for their 9th Annual General Meeting (AGM) and witnessed the handing over of the 8th Executive Committee to the newly elected committee.
Stepping down as President, Mr Gan Giap Leong (Executive Education), Director of Singapore Nobel Electronics Pte Ltd and Past President of NUS Business School Mandarin Alumni said that he had enjoyed his term as President.
“The experience has been truly enjoyable especially the past two years as a President. However, it is time to let the younger generation lead the alumni and I believe the newly-elected President, Dr William Chung, will be able to bring the alumni to the next level,” said Mr Gan, who has been with the alumni for 16 years.
When asked about the future direction and the next step for the Mandarin Alumni, Dr William Chung (Executive Education), Managing Director of Xi-Hong Enterprise Pte Ltd and newly-elected President of Mandarin Alumni said, “The very first task for the new executive committee is to contact all existing graduates from the Mandarin courses to join our alumni’s activities and also to liaise with the School to help promote the Chinese courses in the school.”
At the dinner after the AGM, Guest-of-Honor Mr Chan Soo Sen, Member of Parliament for Joo Chiat, presented certificates to members who became Lifelong Members of the Alumni. He also presented Long Service Awards to Mr Gan, Mr Ng Peng Hor (Executive Education), Dr Hendky Tranku (Executive Education) and Ms Toh Siew (Executive Education), all of whom have served the alumni for more than 10 years. Mr Chan also performed a Chinese song on the spot to raise a total of $27,000 for the alumni.
“The dinner was really enjoyable and fun. It is also a good way to strengthen the bonds between alumni especially those from different batches,” shared Ms Nancy Widjaja (Executive Education), Chairperson of the Chinese Indonesian Association in Jakarta. “I would really love to see more of such events organized by the alumni in the coming year.”
