Members of the Northern China Alumni Network (NCAN) Advisory Board and Executive Committee held its first meeting with representatives of the School on 13 April 2008 in Beijing.
The Board shared about the activities it organized in the past year since its inception a year ago.
Among the highlights is a 2008 China-Singapore Economic Outlook Forum and New Year Party in Beijing on 5 January 2008 which attracted about 80 alumni.
Guest speakers Mr He Xiangquan, Executive Chief Editor, Strategy & Management and Mr An Wei, Financing Manager of AIG-Huatai Fund Management provided an in-depth look at the impact of the 17th National Congress of the Communist Party of China (CPC) on the nation's future development.
Associate Professor Andrew Delios, Head of Business Policy of the School shared on "Acquisitions and the Internationalization Strategies of Chinese, Indian and Southeast Asian Companies".
Board member, Ms Janet Ang (BBA Hons 1982), Vice President, Lenovo Corporation, Strategy & Business Operations, Global Desktop Business Unit, wanted the ECAN alumni network to be more focused. She advised that it would be helpful if the School could provide more distinct objectives for the Network.
Interim Dean Professor Kulwant Singh updated the alumni on developments in the School. Prof Singh offered to establish one MBA scholarship which will be fully managed by the ECAN Board.
The School would also consider a suggestion by the Board for an alumni secretariat to be set up in Beijing to provide administrative and logistic support to the alumni in North China.
