More than thirty alumni from the BBA Class of 1998 gathered at NUS Suntec Guildhouse on 10 July 2008 for their first official reunion.
Jointly initiated by the NUS Business School’s Global Alumni Network Office (GANO) and the NUS Business School Alumni Association (NUSBSA), the event was attended by professionals who have established themselves in their various industries including finance, banking, transport, advertising, and private education.
The reunion was possible, thanks to modern technology. Ms Taly Yap (BBA 1998), Human Resource Lead Consultant, GlobalView Asia Pacific Singapore, revealed, “Only a few of us still kept in touch with members of our graduating class. Fortunately, an increasing number are now connected through Facebook and this was how some of us had learnt of tonight’s reunion.”
In his short address to the alumni – several of whom were his former students – Professor Kulwant Singh, Interim Dean of NUS Business School, called on them to come forward as mentors for the present undergraduates and exhorted them to recruit fresh NUS graduates. He emphasized that this would not only boost the continued success of their alma mater but also help to strengthen their respective organizations.
Reflecting on the night, Mr Michael Goh (BBA Hons 1998) Senior Manager at BOSCH’s Automotive Division, shared, “Having travelled to a dozen countries, lived in many of them, and only just returning home to Singapore recently, it was good to be able to meet up with old friends and discover where we have all progressed in our careers.”
Noting that many big improvements start with small steps, Ms Ivy Ang (BBA 1998), Assistant Honorary General Secretary of NUSBSA noted that though the numbers gathered represented only 5% of the cohort, the response had been encouraging. “If we can all do our part to get in touch with the others from our batch, we can help to build a ‘Repository of Business Knowledge’.” |
