Ice broke between alumni and students, 90 of them in total! Thanks to the interactive elements at this inaugural dialogue and dinner buffet networking session.
The large alumni turn-out from all walks of life displayed our wide and interesting graduate community spread, nothing like the often mistakenly-stereotyped image of alumni being a staid group. This world of opportunities that students can tap into through NUS Business School certainly enthused the students present there that evening. Vice versa, alumni got a glimpse into the very different world of students today.
The Dialogue Professor Hum Sin Hoon, Vice-Dean for Undergraduates, NUS Business School gave the welcome speech, which included a briefing on the School's new initiatives. Presenting a quick snap shot of their respective areas of expertise next were Benny Lee (BBA 1976), President, NUSBSA; P. Jeyaratnam (BBA 1979), Director and Vice-President (Co-opted) of NUSBSA; Joey Gan (BBA 1986), Secretary of NUSBSA; and Steven Seek, Managing Director of JobsDB Singapore Pte Ltd. Dana Lam (BA 1976), President of AWARE Singapore moderated the session. The topic for the night was "Staying Relevant in the New World"- a topic that proved to be both important and interesting to all present.
Participants Speak Sally Low (BBA 1982):
Hearing from fellow alumni and today's students, I feel that at the end of the day, what we ultimately strive for is what we want in life, how we make our lives matter. These are important, be it in the old or new world out there.
Rachel Goh (BBA 2013):
This first-ever open dialogue between the School's alumni and students has been really interactive and fruitful. I believe it will be the start of deeper ties between existing students and alumni.
Camillus Kang (BBA 2013):
Hearing how to remain relevant through the eyes of alumni and other seniors provided me with much understanding with regards to skills and competencies required in today's environment. Realising the need to discover one's strengths, and to capitalise on them, was definitely a key point for me. The session has left me determined to strive for my passions, and to constantly seek new frontiers to develop upon so as to be at the forefront of this new world. |
