Alumni Appreciation Dinner for Officer Bearers

The NUS Business School Global Alumni Network Office played host to an evening of accolades, food and merriment when over 100 office bearers, alumni, students and guests of the NUS Business School gathered in celebration of a successful 2009.

Tribute from the Heart
The School's Dean, Professor Bernard Yeung, warmly welcomed all by extending his heartfelt thanks to all office bearers and supporters for another year of sterling achievements, two significant feats being:

  • the Asia-Pacific Executive MBA Program (APEX) attained 11th position globally in the Financial Times EMBA Rankings, up from 20th in 2008, and

  • the MBA Program retained its 89th standing worldwide in the ranking by the Economist.

Generous in his praise for the alumni community and its office bearers, the Dean stated that since his appointment last year, there had been significant growth and development within the alumni community, a development he attributed to the office bearers, who, as community leaders, had created and added value to the School and its community.

In closing, Professor Yeung reiterated NUS Business School's gratitude to all outgoing office bearers, and encouraged all incoming board members to keep up the excellent work done thus far.

All office bearers were later honored in an Award Ceremony where other awards, like Long Service Awards, were also presented.

Idols at Dinner
Amid a sumptuous 10-course spread, a session of "Alumni Idol" added to the merriment. Each of the 10 tables sent forth a talent or two who sang and entertained on stage - what a display of true "esprit de corps" and strong sporting spirit! Three were ultimately chosen winners, and rewarded with a trophy and a bottle of wine each.

Office Bearers Speak
Benny Lee (BBA 1976), President, NUSBSA, who began serving in NUSBSA as Vice-President in 2006, and was nominated into his current position in May 2009:
"Serving NUSBSA has been an enlightening experience. Since I joined four years ago, I have seen its growth and development into what it has become today. And was I see is most satisfying."

Malcolm Koh (APEX-E MBA 2007), President, MBA Alumni-NUS, who was Secretary from 2008 to 2009 before taking over the reins as President in February 2009:
"I believe in this Alumni and am very pleased to be an NUS graduate. I feel proud seeing the MBA Alumni-NUS board growing stronger during my term on it, and seeing the team successfully organize key events like the yearly Mentorship Lunch for third-year students and the Oktoberfest. It is also indeed my privilege that the School and the MBA Alumni-NUS have come together more strongly through an Alumni Relationship school initiated during my term."

William Chung Tang Fong (Executive Education 1988), President, Mandarin Alumni, who has served in the Mandarin Alumni since 1992:
"The purpose of the Alumni and how it contributes to NUS Business School's cause, and especially in getting things done at work or at alumni level, can be attributed to networking with friends from countries such as Thailand, Indonesia, Malaysia, Vietnam and Australia - coursemates from one's cohort."

Participants Speak
Pradeep Muralidharan (MBA 2009), from India:
"I joined the S3 Asia MBA in 2008 and will graduate in 2009. The course has taken me to Shanghai, Seoul and other places, aside from Singapore. I get a clear and invaluable picture of the business environment and work cultures in these culturally-different countries."

Nancy Wijaya (Executive Education 1987), from Indonesia:
"I am the owner of a car service, mainly tyres, business in Jakarta. The Executive Development Program is very good in that it teaches me business theories and practices; and it further enlightens students on good business practices and how to apply them successfully at work.
