For students of Fujiang Village Elementary School who were affected by the late-2008 Sichuan earthquake, assistance comes swift in the form of NUS Hope School, thanks to the civic-mindedness of our alumni. Project NUS Chengdong Fujiang Hope Primary School will not just rebuild the physical school, but eventually also see the long-term viability of its education program.

A Letter of Intent was signed in May 2009 to rebuild the school. A project to gather RMB 800,000 from alumni in China was launched immediately after. Even before the fund target was reached, an MOU was sealed in September 2009 between NUS Business School, Jiangyou Municipal People's Government, Jiangyou Education & Sports Bureau and a local NGO, the National Committee of YMCA China. This got construction of the school underway.

It is now November 2009. Donations are close to the targeted fund value and counting. Rebuilding works on the school is expected to be completed by March 2010. Ceremonial plans are in the pipeline for that triumphant occasion when the new school opens its doors for the first time.
